If you know this site then you must have an idea that I write a lot about Alexa and this is one of my blogs where I am going to address that audience who thinks either Amazon going to kill Alexa or not. Let’s dive in!
If you are curious, then Amazon is not going to kill Alexa in the near future but if it goes nonprofitable or a better technology comes to replace Alexa then yes, Amazon may discontinue Alexa.
Let’s see why Amazon may kill Alexas and why not!
Reasons why Amazon may kill Alexa
- I searched a lot and I found that there is no downfall in the searches of Alexa in Google Trends. Here is the screenshot

You can see Alexa searches did not fall (in terms of continuity) for the last 3 years.
You can also see the last 9 years graph of Alexa. (It was launched in 2014)

This graph has a small downward tilt but still it is not dying. When the audience is there then why would Amazon close Alexa?
You may know that Jeff Bezos is quick at decision-making. So if Alexa was to dye then Jeff might have started talking about it but it is not the case.
2. Amazon planes “new version of Alexa powered by generative AI” in September 2023 which shows Amazon is investing in Alexa and it will not discontinue. This was the latest information that I could find so far all the information that shows Alexa is going out is outdated.
3. Alexa employees also say that Alexa is not likely to be discontinued. Here is the link.
Reasons why Amazon can discontinue Alexa?
Financial losses: Amazon has been investing for long and a lot on Alexa. 2 years ago, in 2021, Bloomberg reported that Amazon’s Alexa department was losing a whopping £10 billion each year. I could not find profit and loss statement of Amazon Alexa but I can tell all those sites which claim it to loss are not updated and the articles were published in November 2022.

Competition: Alexa is facing more and more competition from other voice assistants, like Google Assistant and Apple Siri. These assistants are getting smarter, and they’re also being used in a wider range of devices.
Privacy concerns: Some people are worried about their privacy when using a voice assistant that’s always listening in on their conversations. Amazon has tried to deal with these worries, but they still bother some users.
I got the latest statistics from Amazon.

Amazon unveiled fresh Echo gadgets for diverse Alexa access and broadened the Fire tablet range with the powerful Fire Max 11. Devices enabled by Alexa sold globally exceed half a billion. Furthermore, Alexa experiences expanded into hotels, vacation rentals, apartments, and senior living facilities in the U.S., including Circa Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.
What does it show?
Amazon is investing on Alexa and telling it to the investors.
Verdict
Amazon is not going to kill Alexa in the near future but if it goes nonprofitable or a better technology comes to replace Alexa then yes, Amazon may discontinue Alexa.
